On this day in 1947, our beloved India reclaimed her freedom. We owe endless gratitude to the brave freedom fighters who sacrificed their comfort, endured years of hardship, and even gave their lives so that we could live in a free nation.

But while the country is free, it’s worth asking — am I truly free?

Some are still bound by harmful habits — alcohol, drugs, gambling.

Some are tied to endless scrolling on social media, binge-watching shows, or the constant need for likes and validation.

Some are chained by anger, jealousy, or the pressure to impress others.

Some are prisoners of lust, greed, or the never-ending chase for bodily comfort and pleasure.

And some are bound by avidyā (ignorance) — not knowing who we truly are.

True freedom is not just about removing chains from the outside — it is about breaking the bondage within. Let us honor our national freedom by striving for inner freedom — freedom from fear, from desire, from ignorance. Because the day we free our own hearts and minds, that day we will know the sweetest and most unshakable independence of all.
